Children’s parties are some of my most favorite parties to plan and design! This is when I get to let all of my creative thoughts run amok! Planning a child’s party is about bringing that child’s fantasy world to life, so it requires for me as the planner and designer, to get in touch with my inner child and design from that perspective.

Recently, I had the privilege of planning, designing, and coordinating a huge carnival themed birthday party for an adorable 1 year old girl named Eden, whom also happens to be my niece! Her parents invited 60 of Eden’s closest family and friends to the party and 90 people actually showed up in search of a good time. Needless to say, that is exactly what they found! For this party I decided to go with the primary color scheme since primary colors are often associated with a carnival or circus. I wanted everything to look over-the-top and exciting, so we decorated with wild circus banners, balloons of all sizes and colors, an assortment of different colored table cloths, and confetti! The menu consisted of charbroiled burgers, french fries, hot dogs and nachos with all of the most popular garnishes. There was a plethora of carnival treats for guests to indulge in like cotton candy, popcorn, peanuts, Red Vines, Fun Dip, Gummy Bears, Ring Pops, and gumballs. All of which could be bagged and taken home. The cake was a two tiered cake with a four horse carousel on top that actually spun around! Each child received a vintage popcorn box that was filled to the brim with party favors like bubbles, silly straws, giant swirly suckers, party horns, and other small novelty toys.

The DJ played popular music that was sung by Kid’s Bop, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and the Chipettes!

There were games galore for the kids to participate in. Among the favorites were, musical chairs, the potato sac race, and Pin-the-Nose on the Clown. The kids also were able to burn off their sugar rush in the giant bouncer that was also filled with balloons that they could chase around!

There was a petting zoo that was filled with hungry party animals. The children enjoyed feeding bottles of milk to the small goats and pigs. But of course, the star party animal was the pony that the children could take turns riding. I mean, what’s a 1 year old birthday party without a pony?

Anne Barge Collection

Anne Barge’s throwback to vintage glamour is brilliant! Lace hems, dainty gloves, elaborate beading and embroidery on classic white an ivory ballgowns render this collection as elegant and regal to say the least. Anne Barge manages to stay very mainstream and traditional, however, she’s chosen a few new trends of 2011 to add to her designs that help compliment her collection beautifully, keeping it fresh and absolutely stunning!

Romona Keveza Collection

The Romona Keveza collection is by far the most innovative and fashion forward of all the 2011 bridal collections. She features short and flirty hemlines and unique color choices. A Keveza design is for the bride who dares to step away from the traditional bridal look on her big day.

Marchesa Collection

Hollywood glam is the best way to describe the Marchesa collection. Feathers, ruffles, and one-shoulder designs are reminiscent of Hollywood actresses on red carpets.

Rivini Collection

The Rivini collection is for the modern bride. These gowns feature a much more sculptured  design that still captures the elegance and charm of traditional gowns.

Vera Wang Collection

Ruffles and muted blush tones are what Vera Wang presented for her 2011 collection. Gowns with accents that draw attention to the waistline like Vera’s ruffle gown with the black sash are all the rage this year. By the way, several of Vera Wang’s designs can now be purchased at David’s Bridal!

Crème de la Royale’s Favorite Trend of 2011: With the month of April quickly becoming the new June as the month to be wed, it’s only fitting that our favorite new trend of 2011 be the gowns that truly embody all that Spring time represents. Oscar de la Renta did an amazing job of bringing together soft blush tones and floral embroidery this year.

My boyfriend and I had just moved into our new home and we were in the process of painting the master bedroom. That night when we went to bed, he asked me turn off the lights and when I did and I laid down I looked up and noticed that there was a glowing message on the ceiling that said “Marry me Jasmine! Love Chris” I was totally shocked! (He had painted it on the ceiling in glow-in-the-dark paint earlier that day while I was picking up lunch.) He turned the light on again and pulled the ring out from under his pillow and of course I said, “YES!”

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! In the spirit of V-Day, Crème de la Royale wants to hear your romantic love stories. Share with us the first time you met the love of your life, your favorite moment with that special loved one, your first kiss, the way you or your love popped the question, or about why you fell in love with that person.
